The "INERTRIBAL ASSOCIATION OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELORS, INC.", is a membership based Association dedicated to training and certifying lay and professional persons to become substance abuse counselors. Our training and qualifying programs are focused on a mix of conventional and Native American culture, spirituality, and traditions. Although we adapt the 12-Step outline, our major concentration is on the age old teachings of the Ancestors that "life is one big Medicine Bag" filled with many kinds of medicine, each being equal, having their place and purpose. There is medicine of the Mind, Body, and Spirit. There is medicine of/from the earth and heavens, and All Relations/Creation in-between. From this giant bag of many medicines holds many keys that unlock Body, Mind, and Spirit doors to higher levels of intellectual and spiritual enlightenment. And from this diversity holds the ingredients to our Personal Medicine Bags. There are a number of personal medicine bags that a person will carry throughout ones life, but the most important is the medicine bag that dictates one's way of life and living. Within this bag hold the substance of one's belief, morals they live by, how they view themselves and the world, and their uncompromising Respect and Reverence for the Path in harmony with All Relations. For one's most important medicine is not that which carries sacred items, but that medicine which dictates a Way of Life. For without the first, the other(s) are weakened or useless because of bad medicine. To the Native, medicine is a Way of Life. When one's personal medicine is ignored, disrespected, or looses harmony with All Relations, the Path becomes clouded, the way becomes unclear, our shields are useless and our lance presents no threat to our mental, physical, and spiritual enemies. Substance abuse and addiction are a body, mind, and spirit state of disharmony from which can be altered, and or, corrected by the right Personal Medicine, A healthy "Way of Life" in respect and reverence to All Relations.
