Unani-Tibb Medicine Course

Objective

To educate and train professionals in Unani-Tibb Medicine and to empower those who seek to study natural medicine with all that Unani-Tibb medicine has to offer.

It is hoped that graduates of our program will endeavour to progress in the fields of research and each become a guiding star in the profession.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates will be issued with certificates or diplomas in Unani-Tibb Medicine which will enable them to register and practice within the Republic.

For local purposes this course consists of 120 hours of theory and 60 hours of practical training. A minimum of 100 hours is required for completion of the internship.

Pre-requisites

Candidates will be required to have completed courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology prior to being accepted into the program.  All medical and allied health professionals are exempt from this.  Allied health professionals are required to submit proof of this.

First Aid (Minimum: Level II) is essential for all non-medical candidates.

Medical ethics and practice management assignments must be completed prior to graduation.  Those who wish to be exempt from this must provide proof that these courses have been completed.  Medical professionals have ethics included in their continued professional development (CPD) programs and are therefore exempt.

Student Expectations

This is a very demanding course. The average student can expect to spend 10–15 hours per

week outside of class with assigned readings, reviewing lectures, and working on assignments. Our expectations are that students will come to class prepared by having read the relevant sections in the course content provided.

Course Material

Course notes are provided in the form of modules.  The following are texts that are essential:

Grading/ Examinations

Candidates will be assessed with end of module tests and assignments.  Marks and grades will be awarded according to the assessment protocol.

There is an examination consisting of both a written and oral component after completion of the first six modules.  There is a final examination after completing the rest of the modules.  The final examination consists of two components also and may include, in the oral component, questions from the first half of the program. All exams are closed book.

Practical assessments are also carried out during the practical sessions after passing the final examination.

Failing in any area will require that the student repeat that that portion of the program.

Pass mark for all assessments is 50%. Marks in excess of 75% are considered an A, 65-74% B, 55-64% C, 50-54% D, less than 50% F.
